O kontrole budoucnosti ve zpravodajství – dodělat

I’ve always found it strange that so much of the news business — supposedly an industry whose job it is to tell us what has already happened — is devoted to trying to predict what will happen. Even stories about things that have already happened are oriented toward the future (What will the recent scandal mean for the presidential race? How will the new jobs numbers affect the stock market?) So much of the coverage of our politics consists of horse-race, who-will-win stories rather than informing us about what has happened.

A lot of this predictive coverage is an attempt to give us certainty about things that are fundamentally unknowable. And much of it is simply a waste of time. How many pieces of predictive punditry have you spent time reading, only for their predictions to turn out utterly wrong?
